Additional details for the
Peugeot 405 T16 - capot and doors open car scale model kit:
Its name, Peugeot 405 Turbo “Pikes Peak”. It had 520 hp under the throttle, which was transmitted to the ground by means of four-wheel drive and steering. He was effective, reliable, and accumulated the most modern competition technology of the time, destined to win the most popular and mythical race in the American West... and he did it, with an undisputed double with Ari Vatanen and Juha Kankkunen in 1988. Additionally, Ari Vatanen set a new Pikes Peak record by doing it in 10 minutes and 47.22 seconds, with teammate Juha Kankkunen just 5 seconds behind. In 1989 Robby Unser also took the win.
The instrument panel was striking, totally different from the version from which it was derived, the 405 Turbo 16 that also won the Paris-Dakar. And it is that the instrument panel only had a huge tachometer, a turbo pressure gauge, the starter switch, the wiper switch and the electric fan switch. And it is that nothing else was really needed, or rather, "you'll see how you won't have time to look at them", as those who were lucky enough to test the car said.
Below 4.500 rpm there were no lows, but when said speed was exceeded, a moment that coincided with the maximum torque and with the maximum boost pressure of the turbo (set at 3 bars of pressure), the kick was impressive, reaching almost instantaneously at 8.000 rpm... by the way, the engine's cut-off speed was at 8.500 rpm.
